100th Virtual Console Game Released: Australian Wii Shop
The 100th Virtual Console game on the Australian Nintendo Wii Shop has been released. Nintendo claims that the 100th game is Metroid for the NES (but several other VC games were also released on Australia’s weekly “Virtual Console Friday”, so which one was really the 100th ?).
The US and Europe hit their 100th release two and three weeks ago, with the US 100th VC game being “Zelda II: The Adventure of Link” for the NES, and “F-Zero X” for the N64 being Europes 100th release.
Personally, who cares which game is the 100th … it’s been more than six months since the release of the Wii, and Virtual Console could potentially offer the back-catalogue of five great systems from the past. Sure, some games have licensing issues, but even so, by now it should be the 1000th VC release, not just the 100th. I wonder if there is any evidence that a slow trickle of VC games will make Nintendo more money than a gushing torrent of retro goodness. Hmmm, now there’s an idea … TORRENT (hint hint)… maybe I’ve just answered my own question … I suspect Nintendo may do better giving their customers what they want in a timely fashion …
